DESIGN AWARDS 2007

The National Design and Research Forum -- a peripheral body of the Institution -- had instituted these awards with a view to promote advancement of engineering design and to facilitate the exchange of ideas on its different aspects. These awards, as finalized by the NDRF, are given away ceremonially during the Indian Engineering Congress held annually at any one of the centres of the Institution spread all over the country.

The following personalities have been conferred with the NDRF Design Awards for the year 2007 during the Twenty-second Indian Engineering Congress held at Udaipur, Rajasthan, during December 13-16, 2007.

NATIONAL DESIGN AWARD

Shri S C Chetal

Director

Reactor Engineering  Group

Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam

Shri S C Chetal, a mechanical engineer, joined Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in 1971. Shri Chetal is contributing significantly for the fast breeder reactor programme in the domain of design, R & D and manufacturing technology. Through detailed optimization studies, Shri Chetal led the multi-disciplinary team to achieve a safe, reliable and economic 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) design. He has played a key role in material selection for PFBR from fuel cladding to condenser tubes. He has also provided excellent design support for Zirconium and Titanium sponge production.
