DESIGN AND RESEARCH FORUM (NDRF)
DESIGN
AWARDS 2008
|
The
National Design and Research Forum -- a peripheral body of the
Institution -- had instituted these awards with a view to promote
advancement of engineering design and to facilitate the exchange
of ideas on its different aspects. These awards, as finalized by
the NDRF, are given away ceremonially during the Indian
Engineering Congress held annually at any one of the centres of
the Institution spread all over the country.
The
following personalities have been conferred with the NDRF Design
Awards for the year 2008 during the Twenty-third Indian
Engineering Congress held at Warangal, Andhra Pradesh during
December 11-14, 2008. |

Dr
K Ramachandra has experience of more than three decades in the
fields of design and development, teaching and training. He has
not only steered the country’s gas turbine engine programmes
for many strategic defence applications but has also handled
several indigenous mechanical engineering challenges for
civilian applications. He is currently a part of the team
spearheading a major Indian initiative in design and development
of Micro Air Vehicles. |

V Sundar has completed three Indo-German projects sponsored by
DFG and Volkswagon Stiftung, Germany apart from various
governmental projects. As a Consultant, he handled several
assignments related
to Port and Harbours, Coastal Engineering problems, etc. He has
been nominated as Expert in the Coastal Protection Development
Committee, Government of India. |

Shri
M Akbar Hussain Baig joined DMRL, Hyderabad, in the year 1980.
He has outstanding contributions in the field of die design and
manufacturing, dimensional inspection and quality control,
reverse engineering, coordinate measuring machine (CMM), rapid
prototyping, etc. In addition he has also built-up the
dimensional evaluations of strategies of pattern dies as well as
aerofoil castings using advanced CMM inspection techniques which
benefit a number of strategic programmes for defence and
civilian power sectors. |

S Geetha started her career at VSCC as an Engineer in the field
of Control Systems. She is responsible for the mission planning,
design, pre-flight synthesis and digital simulations for GSLV
project to inject Indian National Satellite (INSAT) series in
geosynchronous orbits and also for Human in Space Programme (HSP).
