He headed the metallurgical divisions of Taper Roller Bearing plant, Large Diameter Bearing plant, and Cartridge Taper Roller Bearing plant which included Quality, Heat Treatment of precision Bearing components including procurement and development of sources for Raw Materials, Bearing Steels and forged rings. He was also responsible for procurement of various state of the art atmosphere controlled furnaces and related equipment. Mr Gupta started his career with M/s National Engineering Industries Ltd, Jaipur, which manufactures nearly 2.2 million Bearings per month in over 500 different sizes ranging from 6mm bore to 1300 mm outer diameter and having the capacity to manufacture Bearings upto 2000 mm outer diameter. He worked in various capacities in the different plants of the organization gaining wide exposure and experience in the company which manufactures wide variety and range of bearings, such as Ball Bearings, Steel Balls, Tapered Roller Bearings, Cylindrical Roller Bearings and Axle Boxes for Railway Rolling Stock including Spherical Roller Bearings, Cartridge Tapered Roller Bearings and Large Dia special Bearings in separate fully equipped factories. From 1964-1968, he worked at the Ball Bearing plant, and was engaged in the mass Heat Treatment of Bearing races with various continuous and batch type furnaces. In the year 1968, the Taper Roller Bearing plant was setup in collaboration with the Federal Mogul Corporation USA. Mr Gupta was involved from the inception, in the erection and commissioning of the various Heat treatment furnaces, metallurgical laboratories and quality control equipment as also in their layout and in the preparation of the related procedures for regular running. These included continuous carburizing furnaces, hardening furnaces, endothermic gas generators imported from Lindberg, USA. He also developed Toolings and Fixtures for these including plugging and sizing Tools. Later on he was actively involved in their trial runs and in the regular running for mass production. In the year 1982, he had gone for further training at the collaborators plants at Macomb IL and Hamilton Alb. in USA for the latest technology in the field of Bearing Metallurgy and Heat Treatment. He was also responsible for setting up of the most modern metallurgical laboratories for Taper Rolling Bearing. Precision Tapered Roller Bearings are manufactured in inch and metric series from 15.875 mm bore to 95.25 mm bore at the plant. These Bearings are used by all the major Automobile manufacturers in the country as original Equipment. Mr Gupta was instrumental in setting up a large Dia bearing metallurgical plant at Jaipur and developed press and sizing toolings for heat treatment of carburized bearings up to 2000 mm diameter used in industries like steel mills and earthmoving equipment. NEI has the distinction of bring one of the ten manufacturers of these bearings in the world. Mr Gupta was also involved in the metallurgical activities of the Railways Bearing Division, which included metallurgical production of cartridge Tapered Roller Bearing for Indian Railways, from 1984. He also supervised the continuous Salt Bath lines for Heat Treatment of spherical roller bearings used in the manufacture of Railway Bearings.
