Winter 2015 Sections 'A' and 'B' Examinations
Winter 2015 Examinations of Sections 'A' and 'B' shall be conducted
at 68 Examination Centres in India and abroad during
December 05-11, 2015.

2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively.
Applications submitted during the period mentioned
hereunder shall only be considered for
Winter 2015 Examinations.

A candidate shall not be allowed to appear in
the following schemes, if exceeding the number of subjects as mentioned against
each scheme :
Section 'A' (Non-Diploma) - 4 Subjects;
Section 'A' (Diploma) - All Subjects; Section 'B' - 4 subjects

Photocopy of the Examination Form shall be accepted
if copied clearly on A4 size bond paper only. The Examination Form should be sent
duly filled-in directly to the headquarters of the Institution with
requisite fee of Rs. (Rs.)

Procedure for Calculating
the Percentage of Marks
The procedure for calculating the percentage of
marks is based on summation of maximum marks in the range of respective letter grades
of each subject and dividing by the number of subjects, including the project work
and the laboratory experiments.
For downloading various forms related to Institution
Submission of Examination Forms after the last
date shall cause automatic rejection of applications. Plea of ignorance in this
respect shall not be accepted under any circumstances.
In case of non-receipt of the result of the last
examinations for any reason whatsoever, candidates should submit the examination
forms within the stipulated date mentioning the subjects in order of preference
including the subjects appeared at the last examination. In such case, the subjects
for appearing at the examination will be allotted giving preference to the choice
of subjects, but excluding the exemptions, if any, permitting to appear in the next
subject available in the sequential order of subject code.
The examination fee shall be refunded only to
the passed candidates as per rules.
Time Limit for Carrying Forward Exemptions
A candidate shall be required to pass the Institution
Examinations, both in Existing Scheme and Revised Scheme, within a specific period
as mentioned hereunder :
Section A : 6 Years
Section B : 6 Years
No further extension shall be permitted beyond
the stipulated period.

shall be informed by ordinary post with due information to their project guide and
/ or the college.

All candidates appeared up to and including Winter
2005 Examination in old scheme are essentially required to opt balance subjects

EXAMINATION RE-REGISTRATION AFTER
EXPIRY OF SIX YEARS
FOR SECTION A/ SECTION B EXAMINATION
PREMATURE RE-REGISTRATION FOR
As per Clause 8.7 of Examination Rules printed
in Vol. 1 (Rules & Syllabi), the prescribed period for passing Section A or Section
B Examination is six years. Candidates, who would be unsuccessful in Section A or
in Section B Examination after the expiry of six year period, would be
eligible to apply for Examination Re-registration as per rules.

Category 1 : Candidates, who

Six years period shall be counted from Summer examination. For example, if six years
period of a candidate expired in Winter 2013 examination, re-registration period
of six years shall be counted from Summer 2014 irrespective of the month and year
the candidate submits his application during the currency period of re-registration.
Candidates, under category 1 and 2 above, should apply for Examination Re-registration
as per the format (available on IEI website) along with the fee of Rs. (Rs.)
2,500/- (US $ 200 for overseas candidates) by demand draft. Candidates, under category
2, should also apply for Registration of Section B along with a demand draft of
Rs. (Rs.) 4,500/-. If there is any change in address
recorded with the Institution, a separate demand draft of Rs. (Rs.)
150/- (US $ 15 for overseas candidates) should be sent by the candidate along with
the prescribed proforma duly filled-in.
Candidates are advised to apply for the same so as to reach at the Headquarters
office latest by April 10 and October 10, failing which they will not be eligible
to appear in immediate Summer and Winter Examination, respectively.
On receipt of the application for examination re-registration and registration for
Section B, as applicable, with requisite fee, a new identity card shall be issued
to all such candidates.
The Council, at its
680th meeting, approved the rule for premature re-registration of Section A/ Section
B examination , to be effective from 01 June 2014, who are within the currency of
six years period. The eligibility criterion and other details are given hereunder:

Introduction of Cumulative Grade
Point Average (CGPA)
Candidates Passing Sections A
and B Examinations in Revised Scheme
Grade points of all subjects required to appear
to complete the entire course, including laboratory experiments and project work,
shall be divided by the number of subjects to arrive at the CGPA. This shall only
be indicated in the pass grade card of Section B.
Candidates Passed Section A in
Old Scheme and Section B in Revised Scheme
Candidates, who have completed Section A in old
scheme securing specific marks in all required subjects and subsequently completed
Section B in revised scheme securing specific grades in required subjects, CGPA
shall be calculated by converting marks of individual subjects of Section A to grade
points and then adding grade points of all subjects of Section A, Section B, project
work, and laboratory experiments and divided by the number of applicable subjects.
No separate grade card for Section A, which is already completed in old scheme,
shall be issued.
Candidates Exempted from Section
A, by virtue of Passing Sections A & B Examinations earlier, and passed Section
B in Additional Branch in Revised Scheme
Such candidates shall be considered similar to
those who obtained exemption from Section A by virtue of passing degree in engineering
from the recognized university. CGPA for them shall be calculated adding the grade
points obtained in required number of subjects in Section B, project work and laboratory
experiments and dividing by number of applicable subjects.
Section 'B' Examination in Additional
Branch of Engineering for Associates (formerly Graduates) and Corporate Members
The Institution examination is being conducted
only in Revised Scheme from Summer 2006. The conduct of examination in old scheme
has been discontinued after Winter 2005.
Corporate Members are eligible to appear in additional branch of engineering. Members,
who intend to appear for the first time in additional branch of engineering or have
appeared in Section B in additional branch in old scheme up to and including Winter
2005 examination and failed to secure any subject exemption, should first apply
for registration for Section B on the Prescribed Format sending a demand draft for
Rs. (Rs.) 3000/- (US $ 200 for Overseas Chapters candidates).
Thereafter, examination application form, along with the demand draft of Rs. (Rs.) 2000/- (US $ 150 for candidates of overseas chapters),should
be submitted within the stipulated period. All such candidates are required to perform
Project Work and Laboratory Experiment as per clause 2.3 of Rules (Vol.1 ). The

A-xxxxxx/x in the examination form and all other correspondence.
Selection of Balance Subject (s) in Revised Scheme
All Candidates, appeared up to and including Winter
2005 Examination in old scheme and secured exemption in one or more subjects are
required to opt for balance subjects from the Revised Scheme to appear at the examination.

Restriction of transfer of subject(s) exemption(s)
for candidates appearing in additional branch in revised scheme
Candidates, having passed Section B Examination
in a particular discipline in old scheme and wish to appear in Section B in additional
branch in revised scheme, are not eligible to get subject(s) exemption(s) of same
nomenclature. However, transfer of subject(s) exemption(s) shall remain valid if
it is from one engineering discipline to the other in revised scheme as per clause
2.3.4 of Vol. 1 : Rules of the Institution Examinations.
The grade(s) secured by a candidate in extra subject(s) shall not be considered
for improvement of grade(s) secured by him in earlier examinations.
Section 'B' Examination in Same Branch of Engineering for Corporate Members
The Council at its 685th meeting held at Chandigarh decided that the candidates passed
M.Sc. in Computer Science/ Electronics or in other disciplines and subsequently
obtained M.E./ M. Tech. degree or higher degree in an engineering discipline from any
recognized Indian University and are Corporate Members of IEI shall be permitted
directly to register for Section B examination in the same branch in which they passed
their M.E./M. Tech. or higher degree in engineering with effect from Winter 2015 examination.
Carry Forward of Subject(s) Exemption
Changing Membership from Technician
to Senior Technician
A Technician member, after acquiring diploma level
qualification, changes his membership to Senior Technician, s/he shall be considered,
on request, as exempted from Section 'A' Examination, provided s/he has secured
exemption (obtained Grade 'C' or above with minimum GPA being 6) in four common
subjects of same nomenclature in both Section 'A' (Non-diploma) and Section 'A'
(Diploma) of revised syllabi. No pass grade card of Section 'A' shall be issued.
S/he shall be eligible to register for Section 'B', with requisite fee, with an
undertaking that s/he shall not claim pass grade card for Section 'A'. The CGPA
shall be calculated only on the basis of Section 'B' Examination, project work and
In case the Technician Member secured exemption
in one or more common subject(s) of same nomenclature in both the schemes of revised
syllabi, grade in common subject(s) can be carried forward, on request, after change
of her/his membership.
Inspection of Answerscripts of Section A/Section B Examination
The Council at its 673rd meeting held at Kolkata Resolved the following:
“The candidates appear in a particular session in Section A/Section B examination
may appeal for verification of their answerscript(s) for arithmetic correction in
totaling of marks and any omission/deletion in evaluation within 15 days from the
date of declaration of results at HQs of the Institution on the prescribed proforma
as given below with fee of Rs. (Rs.) 500/- per answerscript
by demand draft in favour of ‘The Institution of Engineers (India)’ payable at Kolkata.
On receipt of the request from the candidate with fee, the exact date and time will
be informed to the candidate to inspect his/her answerscript at the HQs of the Institution
at his own expense. In case any candidate fails to appear to inspect his answerscript(s)
at the given date and time, no further opportunity shall be given for inspection
of answerscript(s). It is further clarified that re-verification of answerscript
shall not tantamount to re-valuation of answerscript. This is only a process of
