HOW TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER WITH IEI

WHO ? .............................................

The Institution of Engineers (India), the largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional body of engineers, has been certifying Professional Engineers (PEs) for over a decade. The Institution is now a provisional member of the Engineers’ Mobility Forum (EMF), which facilitates the international mobility of professional engineers certified according to the international standards.

WHY ? ............................................

The certification of an engineer as a Professional Engineer (PE) recognizes his professional capability and competence. The Professional Engineers certified as per international norms would be free to practice the profession in other countries like the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, etc. without any additional checks beyond those applicable to the local engineers in those countries on Institution’s attaining the full membership of the EMF. 

HOW ? ..........................................

Eligibility criteria for becoming a Professional Engineer :

  • Recognized bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent

  • Minimum seven years’ professional experience

  • Minimum two years’ professional experience in significant engineering activity

  • Satisfactory level of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

  • Membership of a recognized professional institution or society

  • Good character and commitment to the Code of Ethics

CERTIFICATION

The certification of professional engineer involves :

  • Online Assessment Examination

  • Assessment of record of professional experience and Continuous Professional Development
