30th National Convention of Agricultural Engineers, Pantnagar

Release of Souvenir


Pantnagar Local Centre of the Institution in association with College of Technology, G B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, organized the 30th National Convention of Agricultural Engineers and National Seminar on the theme ‘Technological Innovations for Enhancing Profitability of Small and Marginal Farms’, during February 27-28, 2017 at Pantnagar. The Chief Guest, Dr J Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, in his inaugural address, stressed on food security all over the country which could be overcome through technological interventions. In absence of Mr D V Nagabhusan, Chairman, Agricultural Engineering Division Board (AGDB), IEI, Mr K P Tripathi, Member, AGDB, presided over the function. He stressed on more R&D work in the field of agricultural engineering and spoke about Institution’s R&D Grant-in-Aid. The Guest-of-Honour, Dr H C Sharma, Dean, College of Technology, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, spoke on farm mechanisation systems. A Proceeding was brought out on this occasion which was released by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The prestigious ‘Rathindranath Tagore Memorial Lecture’ was delivered by Prof Pitam Chandra, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management, Sonipat, Haryana and former Director, ICAR--Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal, on the topic, ‘Agricultural Engineering Education in India: Past, Present and Future Prospect’. On this occasion, four Eminent Engineering Personalities, namely, Prof H G Ashoka, Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra, Bangalore; Dr Ambrish Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun; Prof P K Singh, Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, College of Technology, GBPUAT, Pantnagar; and Prof T P Singh, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Technology, GBPUAT, Pantnagar were felicitated for their valuable contributions in the field of Agricultural Engineering. The ‘IEI Young Engineers Award’ for the year 2016-2017 was presented to Mr Dronachari Manvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering, College of Sericulture, Chintamani, Karnataka; Mr Ashok Kumar Arudra, Assistant Professor, Department of Farm Machinery & Power, College of Agricultural Engineering, Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh (in absentia); and Dr Darshan M B, Assistant Research Engineer, AICRP on Post Harvest Engineering & Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra, Bangalore. A Panel Discussion on ‘Future of Agricultural Engineering’ was also held during the Convention. Earlier, Dr V K Singh, Chairman of the Centre, welcomed the august gathering and Dr T P Singh, Organizing Secretary, elaborated the theme of the Convention. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Paras, Honorary Secretary of the Centre.
