By virtue of its contribution in the area of scientific and industrial research, the IEI has been recognised as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organization [SIRO] by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

IEI has been playing a critical role in defining excellence and setting up benchmark for upliftment of engineering education. The basic objective of the R&D initiative is to inculcate the culture of research in the budding engineers so that they can contribute to the development of the nation.
